Sasso San Gottardo – history, nature and adventure since 2012
Since opening in 2012, Sasso San Gottardo has been delighting visitors with a unique combination of history, nature and adventure. Just 300 metres from the Gotthard Pass summit lies the largest publicly accessible fortress in Switzerland, hidden deep inside the mountain. The ride on the site's own Metro del Sasso is already a highlight in itself and takes visitors directly into the historic fortress. Whether fascinating insights into the past or the starting point for numerous hikes around the Gotthard region – culture and nature come together here in an impressive way. The site is also considered a gateway to Switzerland's sunny southern region and invites visitors to discover Ticino at its very best. Free customer parking is conveniently available directly in front of the entrance.

Good to know

• Sasso San Gottardo is located at over 2'000 metres above sea level in the high mountains, where temperatures can remain cool even in summer
• Inside the fortress, temperatures are 6 °C (connecting tunnels and parts of the historic fortress), and between 14-18 °C in the exhibition areas
• Warm clothing and closed shoes are therefore recommended
• Photography is permitted
• Please note that pets are not allowed anywhere in the facility
