Absolutes are highly concentrated, fragrant natural plant extracts produced from a plant through the extractive action of an organic solvent. Extraction begins with maceration (from the Latin macerare "to soak") of the plant to obtain what is known as a concentrate. This solid concentrate is then dissolved in alcohol, eliminating insoluble waxes while retaining pigments and essences. The final step is to separate the alcohol from the perfumed substance: the result is an absolute, a dense, precious and highly concentrated liquid.
