- Day 1: Zurich > stopover > Beijing (flight)
Departure from Europe – off to mystical China! You spend one night on the plane on the way there. - Day 2: Beijing
Arrival in Beijing and welcome by your tour guide at the airport. Depending on the arrival time, you will have free time or start sightseeing after consultation. Hotel check-in is expected from 3pm.
Hotel: Xiyuan Hotel or Lake View Hotel (or similar) - Day 3: Beijing (B, L or D)
Visit the Temple of Heaven, one of the city's most famous landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the past, emperors prayed here for good harvests. Today locals use the park for gymnastics, games and social gatherings. Afterwards, stroll through the traditional hutongs.
Hotel: Xiyuan Hotel or Lake View Hotel (or similar) - Day 4: Beijing (BL)
Visit Tian'anmen Square. Afterwards explore the Forbidden City, which served as the residence of the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for centuries. The vast palace complex consists of around 890 buildings and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards visit a centre for traditional Chinese medicine.
Hotel: Xiyuan Hotel or Lake View Hotel (or similar) - Day 5: Beijing > Zhengzhou > Shaolin Monastery (high-speed train) (BD)
After breakfast, visit the Great Wall, one of the most impressive structures in the world. In the afternoon photo stop at the Olympic Stadium «Bird's Nest». Afterwards high-speed train journey to Zhengzhou.
Hotel: Dengfeng Jingpeng Eco Hotel or Zhongzhou Intermega Shaolin Hotel (or similar) - Day 6: Zhengzhou > Luoyang > Xi'an (high-speed train) (BL)
Visit the famous Shaolin Monastery, the cradle of Chan Buddhism and Kung Fu. You will see training sessions of the monks as well as the Pagoda Forest with over 220 burial pagodas. In the afternoon visit the impressive Longmen Grottoes, one of the most important Buddhist grotto complexes in China with more than 100'000 Buddha statues. Afterwards train journey to Xi'an.
Hotel: Jinhui Pullman Hotel or Sheraton Hotel (or similar) - Day 7: Xi'an (BL)
Visit a traditional workshop for jade and clay figurines. Afterwards experience the highlight of the trip: the world-famous Terracotta Army, one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. Afterwards walk through the old town of Xi'an and the Muslim Quarter with many market stalls and local specialties (at your own expense).
Hotel: Jinhui Pullman Hotel or Sheraton Hotel (or similar) - Day 8: Xi'an > Chengdu (high-speed train or flight) (BL)
Train journey or flight to Chengdu. In the afternoon visit the historic Jinli Street and the famous Kuanzhai Alleys – a lively district with traditional architecture, restaurants and shops.
Hotel: Mishan Hotel or Tibet Hotel (or similar) - Day 9: Chengdu > Chongqing > Yangtze cruise (BL)
Visit the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base where you can observe the famous giant pandas up close. In the afternoon high-speed train journey to Chongqing. Walk to the Liberation Monument in the city centre and embarkation on your 5-star cruise ship.
Cruise ship: President 8 (or similar) - Day 10: Yangtze cruise (BLD)
Excursion to Shuangguishan National Park with temples, pagodas and magnificent views over the Yangtze River. Alternatively visit the mysterious Fengdu Ghost City, which in Chinese mythology is considered the entrance to the underworld.
Cruise ship: President 8 (or similar) - Day 11: Yangtze cruise > Three Gorges (BLD)
Cruise through the impressive Qutang and Wu Gorges. Afterwards boat excursion to the picturesque Shennv Stream where you will experience the spectacular scenery of the Three Gorges up close.
Cruise ship: President 8 (or similar) - Day 12: Yichang > Shanghai (high-speed train) (B, lunch package)
Visit the Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydroelectric power project in the world. Afterwards high-speed train journey to Shanghai and transfer to the hotel.
Hotel: Jeurong or Jinjiang Hotel (or similar) - Day 13: Shanghai (BL)
Discover the metropolis of Shanghai with its impressive skyline. Visit the Shanghai Museum and the famous shopping street Nanjing Road. Afterwards walk along the Bund with views of the modern skyscrapers. Visit a silk factory.
Optional: evening tour with river cruise and dinner (approx. EUR 79.– per person)
Hotel: Jeurong or Jinjiang Hotel (or similar) - Day 14: Shanghai > stopover > Zurich (flight) (B)
Transfer to Pudong Airport and return flight home.
