    Features

    The Estate

Château Sociando-Mallet, founded in the mid-19th century, is a benchmark in Bordeaux. The estate is located in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne in the Haut-Médoc AOC, on the heights of Baleyron, a remarkable Graves terroir in the Médoc near the Gironde estuary. In 2019, the estate covered 83 hectares. Ownership and management are now in the hands of Sylvie Gautreau, who took over in 2019.

    The Vineyard

La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet comes from plots of young vines and terroirs where a shallow layer of gravel over limestone-clay gives the wine its characteristic expression. This Graves terroir near the Gironde estuary is situated on the Baleyron hill in the Haut-Médoc and benefits from a prime exposure. This cuvée is the estate's second wine.

    The Vintage

The 2017 vintage began with a mild winter, followed by an unpredictable spring. While the uniform flowering suggested a fine quality, the instability observed from July onward led to vigorous vegetative growth. However, conditions in late August and September allowed for more precise ripening, so the harvest took place in sunny weather, yielding grapes of beautiful generosity and remarkable balance.

    Vinification and Aging

After manual harvesting and selection on the sorting table, La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet 2017 is vinified in temperature-controlled tanks that combine stainless steel and concrete. Malolactic fermentation takes place in the tank. Aging occurs partly in barriques, with only 25% new barrels; the remainder remains in stainless steel tanks. This approach preserves the wine's fruity character while imparting structure and complexity. The total aging period is approximately 18 months prior to bottling.

    Grape Varieties

    Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc

    Food Pairing

This second wine pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted red meat, lamb, duck, and game. It also harmonizes very well with strong cheeses.

    Serving and Storage

La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet 2017 can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2032. Decanting for one to two hours before serving helps to open up the aromas. Serve at a temperature of 14 to 15°C.
