Description
High-quality tequilas, which are drunk as shots, used as cocktail ingredients, or enjoyed neat like a mature scotch, are very popular. Arturo Lomeli began marketing his relatively inexpensive tequila in 1997, bottled in a bottle decorated with a sombrero and a mustache. But he soon went back to school to study “luxury marketing.” In 2007, Clase Azul Ultra hit the market at a price of $1,200 and was well received. Since then, he has specialized in the high-end segment of the market. Making tequila is an art form: the blue heart of the Weber agave is cooked for 72 hours in a brick oven and the juice harvested is then fermented and distilled twice. Maturation takes place in the village of Jesús Maria, where it can get as cold as 5°C at night. The tequila is also particularly valuable because of the handmade bottles from Santa Maria Canches. These ceramic bottles, reminiscent of a pepper mill, are decorated by hand and can be used as decorative objects once empty, such as lamps, candlesticks, or vases. These are just some of the ideas suggested by the manufacturers. Tequila Clase Azul Reposado is stored for eight months in oak barrels and has notes of cooked agave, wood, fruit, vanilla, and caramel.
