Carillon d'Angélus Saint-Emilion Red Wine, 2018 - 6 x 75 cl

Description

The elegance and aromatic finesse of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
The Estate

Château Angélus is one of Saint-Émilion's prestigious Premiers Grands Crus Classés A. This legendary estate within the appellation was founded in 1782, and for eight generations, the de Boüard de Laforest family has safeguarded this exceptional heritage. Carillon d'Angélus is Château Angélus's second wine.
The Vineyard
Carillon d'Angélus 2020 is produced from an 18-hectare vineyard whose plots are spread across clay, sandy-clay-limestone, and well-drained soils. Attentive to its environment, this Saint-Émilion estate is in the process of converting to organic farming, and the vineyard is certified as Level 3 High Environmental Value.
The Vintage
Heavy rainfall in the winter and spring allowed the soils to build up a vital water reserve that lasted throughout the year, helping to maintain the vineyard's balance. The 2020 vintage is characterized both by a prolonged drought and by the ability of the soils (clay and limestone) to achieve perfect balance by drawing on their water reserves. Summer conditions were ideal for ensuring good ripeness and producing healthy, balanced grapes rich in polyphenols. Balanced and well-rounded, 2020 is a perfect synthesis of its two illustrious predecessors, 2018 and 2019.
Vinification and Aging
Vinification takes place in inverted truncated-cone stainless steel tanks, with filling and extraction carried out by gravity. Pre-fermentation maceration precedes alcoholic fermentation, followed by post-fermentation maceration lasting 1 to 3 weeks. 50% of the wine is transferred to barrels immediately after racking, and the remaining 50% after malolactic fermentation. Aging lasts 16 months and takes place in barrels, 60% of which are new and 40% are one-wine barrels.
Blend
Merlot (90%), Cabernet Franc (10%)
