Description
- Type:
- Winemaking: The Eichkogel is a cuvée made from Grosshöflein's traditional grape varieties, Blaufränkisch (70%) and Zweigelt (30%). In the Pannonian climate of Burgenland, the grapes ripen to the highest quality on the southern slopes of the Leitha Mountains. Aged in small oak barrels, the Eichkogel combines the spicy berry fruit of Blaufränkisch with the velvety texture of Zweigelt. Fully ripe, healthy grapes are selectively harvested by hand. Blaufränkisch with about 30% Zweigelt. Aging takes place for 21 months in small French oak barrels. No fining, but with light filtration.
- Food pairing: The Eichkogel pairs excellently with hearty meat dishes such as lamb and steaks. Summer game. Perhaps even best enjoyed after the meal with aged cheese, though a young cream cheese is also a good choice.
- Aroma & Taste: The bouquet features fully ripe berry fruit, underpinned by a spicy flavor profile of culinary herbs and cloves; on the palate, robust tannins, full-bodied, juicy, and long-lasting, with an enormous finish. This wine should be decanted.
