The estate
With origins dating back to the 12th century, Château Margaux is one of the Grands Crus that have built the legend of Bordeaux's great wines around the world. In 1855, the château was awarded the title of Premier Grand Cru Classé and was the only one of the four châteaux evaluated to receive a score of twenty out of twenty. With André Mentzelopoulos's acquisition of the estate in 1977, Château Margaux began a new chapter in its history. Raising Château Margaux's Grand Vin to the highest level, he reintroduced the château's second wine, the Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, first produced in 1908. Following in her father's footsteps following his untimely death, Corinne Mentzelopoulos took up the family mantle with energy and passion to preserve the status of Château Margaux, which had become a Bordeaux masterpiece, so easily recognizable by its Neo-Palladian architecture. Vintage after vintage, the estate's wines rank among the world's greatest.
The Vineyard
The Château Margaux vineyard owes its distinct character to its rare and unique terroir, situated on a gravelly hill. The estate's grape varieties give pride of place to the region's flagship red grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. The estate's clay-limestone soils give rise to legendary wines, distinguished by their elegant and sensual character, so representative of the Margaux appellation. This vintage comprises 30% of the harvest.
The Vintage
The year 2018 was marked by record heat and heavy rainfall in the first half of the year, complicating viticulture, particularly due to severe downy mildew pressure. However, a dry and hot summer, reminiscent of the 2009 vintage, allowed the grapes to ripen beautifully. The harvest, which took place from late August to mid-October, benefited from optimal conditions, with no Botrytis and well-balanced ripeness across the grape varieties. Rigorous grape selection and meticulous winemaking ensured the quality of the vintage despite slightly lower yields.

Cabernet Sauvignon (69%), Merlot (19%), Petit Verdot (9%), and Cabernet Franc (3%).
